Discover the Value of Your Art

My 5-Step Appraiser Client Working Arrangement

  1. A brief conversation will determine the scope of the client’s needs and arranges a meeting on the client’s premises.
  2. At the meeting, an examination will be done, photographs will be taken, and provenance documentation will be noted.
  3. After the meeting, a professional opinion of value (POV) will be developed to determine if a full appraisal report is warranted.
  4. When agreed upon and the purpose of the appraisal is identified, a thorough report will be prepared utilizing professional expertise and resources.
  5. Completed reports are provided to the client with a confidential copy maintained by Jon Taner.

Jon Taner has been a cherished friend for many years.  A highly accomplished artist in his own right (we are fortunate to own several outstanding pieces), Jon has a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the art world.  When we started cataloguing our extensive and eclectic collection, Jon was our immediate and unequivocal choice for assistance.  His organizing skills are superlative, and his efforts in researching history and provenance are tireless and unstinting (he discovered some surprising and unsuspected value).

It is a pleasure to recommend Jon.

Passaic County Community College holds an important collection of 19th and early 20th century paintings, sculpture, and decorative arts. In 2013 appraisals of the fine art collection needed to be updated for insurance purposes, and Jon Taner was chosen to do the work.
As curator of the PCCC Art Galleries, I got to know Jon Taner well while working with him on appraisals of the Hamilton Club Art Collection and of the Federici Studio Sculpture Collection (several hundred objects). He also helped catalog some of the objects. Jon is knowledgeable, professional and thorough. I was very impressed with his clear comprehensive reports, which included detailed research, photographs, descriptions of the artwork and artists, and the appraised values.
We were very pleased with Jon’s excellent work, and I would highly recommend him for any appraisal project.
